ROSE MORANT
Born in 1963 in Paris, France
Lives and works in Paris and Hong Kong
French-Swiss artist Rose Morant began traveling extensively throughout Asia at a very young age. After working with Hermes and other luxury brands in Europe developing homeware and jewelry collections, she set up a studio in Hong Kong and focused on making sculpture. With an extensive first-hand knowledge of traditional crafts and culture in Asia, Morant began creating circular sculptures called “Spheres.” “Spheres” are made of flower powders from offerings to a pagoda in Myanmar. The artist collected the pagoda flowers with a local family, powdered them and shaped the spheres. Each “Sphere” has local gemstones hidden inside. Their surfaces are finished with lacquer, gold leaf, and sometimes accented with gemstones.
Morant creates peaceful and powerful collection of works with natural materials found in the artisanal practices of Asia.
